...he's doing a 6 1 9!!
It should be said that I have great kids. Don't get me wrong, they are the same kids that at times drive me up the nearest tree. They have their hormone imbalances, the attitude, the ability to not hear me when I am sitting directly next to them. But all in all, they are motivated, talented, driven and kind, never necessarily all at once, but I digress. Despite missing school for nearly a month, report cards came in last week. The negotiations ensued.
It is funny how quickly performance evaluations can be debated. These are things you don't necessarily do as adults, but I think I could learn something from these offspring. We are either raising future lawyers or politicians in this house. One debated that really he had the same grades as last report card, it was just a point lower now. I quickly retorted with, "One mile over the speed limit will still result in a ticket." The next kid tried the same debate, when I then pointed out that a nine point difference in that same argument might get his license revoked-not a winning debate. Atticus was quick to point out that while I didn't see his report card while I was gone, it mostly had "S's," I am not even sure if that is true or can be verified.
Nora, her report card looked the same as always. She is driven and loves to get good grades. Like cigarettes in prison, I think it garners her favor among her teachers and she gets to do extra things to help out in the classroom. If she is anything at school comparable to how she is at home, I'm sure she is a help. However, with this report card she decided to play hard ball. There was definitely something she wanted, and she was tenacious in her efforts. It started about a week ago with the hints, the not so subtle comments, and then she went for broke-she moved her persuasive talents on to Jimmi.
"Well, I have kept my grades up very high, and if I were to be rewarded, I would really appreciate it." The reward she so longed for? The WWE Pay Per View 2019. I didn't even know what it was, how to get it, or how it worked...thus her brilliance in going to Jimmi. The smalls love to watch wrestling on Monday nights, I am not even sure where their love for the ring started. For Christmas they asked for action figures and a mini ring. I was worried that they were going to pick up crazy new ideas for kicking the Talls' butts. But honestly, the thing they love most is the play-by-play action.
So, last night before dinner, we hooked up Nora's reward for grades, among grumblings from the Talls. Her sidekick came in and the action was ON! Between discussions of who was better managed, and Atticus yelling out wrestling moves, "Oh my gosh!! He is going to do a 6 1 9!!!" What the what? I was aghast and enthralled at their knowledge of what was going on. Like Santa, the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny, this stuff was REAL. In hindsight, I think more real as Atticus was curious about the afore mentioned trio recently, another story for another day. It was 5 hours of over the top acting, endless near tap outs, rope grabs, trash talking, greasy hair, strobe lights and basic mindless entertainment...all in the comfort of our living room.
The take away from this story, a well prepared and delivered negotiation from now on in this house will be rewarded.
